These were the greatest toys!!!

I think between me and all my friends we had each and every one of these toys!!!

I had the barn and the jack in the box but I loved the parking garage and the cars. Matchbox cars were some of my favorite toys...specifically the red corvette.

Copycat Wednesday...

I'm totally just copying from Liam's blog today. Give me a break, I'm on vacation. :)

1. How often do you talk to your siblings?
I don't have any. The closest thing is my cousins...my mom is an identical twin so genetically I have a half-sister and two half-brothers. And of course the families of twins are indeed close. They've acted like my siblings on more than one occassion.

2. How well do you deal when given an ultimatum?
Don't give me one. Just don't. Seriously.

3. Have you ever dated someone or had a lover who had an emotional or mental disorder?
Yes, my husband occassionally suffers from depression, it runs in the family. The good thing is that now he can identify it and deal with it pretty well. Wow, I hope he doesn't mind me announcing that to everyone. Fair is fair...I've had depression too...I also suffer from S.A.D.

4. How do you feel about crossdressing?
I have no problem with it as long as it is not adversely effecting loved ones...I personally have no interest. But then again...it's not really seen as a 'problem' in women...only men. I mean...I'm wearing a tank top and jeans now...not different than something a guy would wear. So maybe I do cross-dress! :)

5. Have you ever lied about the number of sexual partners you have had to someone? Why?
Nope, no reason to. Heck I'll announce it here...two.

6. Does your significant other have the same political and religious views that you do? How often do you discuss politics and religion with them?
We pretty much have the EXACT same views on both topics. We talk about them occassionally...usually when something else brings it up...the news, someone being stupid, etc.

7. What sport, if any, do you find to be most boring?
Basketball...I have no interest in a sport played by greedy thugs.

8. Have you ever honestly peed in the pool?
I think I did when I was a kid.

The name debate...

Thank you to those who provided input!  But it continues...

It was suggested to me to include my middle initial when using my name initials.
And also...Shawna suggested adding the word 'art' in there.

So as it stands here are my favorites...
SJLimages
SJL Image Art
Lasting Image Art
Image Art by Stacy

So now...brew on that a while...let me know what your favorites are or if you have any new ideas...

Bottle Shock...the review...

We loved Bottle Shock!!!

It had a somewhat slow start but we really enjoyed it. Alan Rickman is, of course, just great in this and it's just a funny and entertaining movie. When this movie is available to buy on DVD we'll have it.

The scenery was killing us though! We want to go back to wine country even more now!

Chateau Montelena is beautiful...we're putting it on our list of places to go next time...along with I'm sure everyone else who has watched this movie.
I noticed that Glen Ellen was a shooting location and now I'm really wondering where. We stayed in Glen Ellen for about 4 days on our honeymoon. It's the cutest little town and everyone is so nice to each other. (Population 992 at the 2000 census)

We're already planning our next trip...hopefully Spring 2010...to coincide with GlenLyon's release party!

Help name me!!!

Ok...I need everyone's help
.
I want to start a business with my photos and images. Right now what I'm thinking is selling some of my photos as art. It may be photographic prints, poster prints, different photo mounts, all kinds of photo creations.
.
But I don't necessarily want a photography business (yet)...we'll see if something happens with that as I progress...so I'm trying to stay away from something like Lastinger Photography.
.
Safe words are something like 'images', 'studio'...etc.
I've toyed with:
SL Studio
SL Images
Lastinger Studio
Images something something...
.
Maybe I keep my name out of it and do something completely different?
.
I'm usually the one people come to for stuff like this but I think because it's my own 'company' I'm having trouble!
I want to get started with a website soon but figure...I kinda need a name first...
.
So please help! Get your creative juices flowing...get out that thesaurus! (that always helps me)...read my profile for inspiration...ask me questions for inspiration! (And then Google it to make sure that the name isn't already taken somewhere...like 'Studio 13'...damn, I like it but alas...)
.
There may be something in store for the 'winning' name. :)

Comedic Gymnastics...

How is it that I've just heard of Paul Hunt?
These are pretty funny...

Driving Annoyances...

Granted...my patience is thin today.  Why?  I don't know.  It's Monday? I'm tired. People at work are annoying me.
Blech!

Anyway...I decided I wanted a shrimp po' boy and hush puppies from the Budbugs...the Nawlin's food place.  I knew I was going to have such a fun drive.

So lets cover some driving basics shall we?

1. Turn signals...use them
2. Oncoming traffic comes from the left FIRST.  If you insist on doing a 'rolling stop'...and let's face it...we all do...how about you look to the LEFT FIRST?  You know...the direction you'll get smashed from first...then worry about who is coming from the right...the furthest lane from you.
3. You know those pretty lights that hang over the intersection?  Those tell you when to go and when to stop.  When it turns green...GOOOOOOOOOOOO!  (You have until the count of 2 before you get honked at by me)
4.  I know those are speed limit signs...but you CAN get a ticket for driving to slow.  If you're too scared to drive the same or average speed as surrounding traffic...don't.
5. I'm sorry...you know that lane becomes a turn only lane.  Don't try to snap in at the last second.  Or if you do...you'd better do it with some finesse...don't hold up traffic behind you...you know, the ones that actually do want to turn right...to get ahead by a dozen or so cars.
6. Awwww...you're dog is so cute!!!  Get it off your lap!

Sleepy...

I've been up since 4am.  Rob was up too.  No idea why.  We finally decided...screw it...let's just get up, get ready, and go to breakfast instead of laying hear awake and miserable.
So we went to Bob Evans.  Mmmmm good ole Bob Evans...with the cute old guys who are regulars and don't wait to be seated...they have their usual spot and all the servers know them by name.  There was even a guy across the aisle from us who was being taught how to play Sudoku by a waitress.  He was so cute!
I've been craving pancakes like none other so today was the day to satisfy it.  I got the 'Classic Breakfast'...one pancake, two eggs, bacon, and a side of wheat toast so I could dunk it in my over-easy eggs and a Diet Coke.  It was awesome.
But I'm going to need some serious help staying awake today...
I haven't been sleeping well in general lately and it takes me a while to actually fall asleep and I'm a light sleeper anyway.  The best I've slept in the last week was the naps I had on Saturday and Sunday.
I"m strugglin'!

Word definitions for the office...

1. BLAMESTORMING: Sitting around in a group, discussing why a deadline was missed or a project failed, and who was responsible.
-this seems to be happening a lot around here lately...and thankfully...it honestly can't land on me right now. I own up to my mistakes anyway.

2. SEAGULL MANAGER: A manager, who flies in, makes a lot of noise, craps on everything, and then leaves.
-I can't think of anyone here who does this...but I can think of others we work with/for that do. I'm not naming names...just in case.

3. ASSMOSIS: The process by which some people seem to absorb success and advancement by kissing up to the boss rather than working hard.
-Oh yea. I see that. Luckily the boss here...sees through that kind of shit.

4. SALMON DAY: The experience of spending an entire day swimming upstream only to get screwed and die in the end.
-this happens at least once a week

5. CUBE FARM: An office filled with cubicles.
-oh yea...that's this office for sure

6. PRAIRIE DOGGING: When someone yells or drops something loudly in a cube farm, and people's head pup over the walls to see what's going on.
-a lot of our panels are 70" tall...that doesn't happen too much

7. MOUSE POTATO: The on-line, wired generation's answer to the couch potato.
-everyone's a mouse potato sometimes...

8. SITCOMs: Single Income, Two Children, Oppressive Mortgage. What Yuppies get into when they have children and one of them stops working to stay home with the kids.
-YAY! No kids here!

9. STRESS PUPPY: A person who seems to thrive on being stressed out and whiny.
-this is totally one of my superiors...sometimes you just want to smack them with a newspaper and rub their nose in it!

10. SWIPEOUT: An ATM or credit card that has been rendered useless because magnetic strip is worn away from extensive use.
-this was almost me...I'm sure it will be me this time

11. XEROX SUBSIDY: Euphemism for swiping free photocopies from one's workplace.
-who doesn't do this in some way or another?

12. IRRITAINMENT: Entertainment and media spectacles that are annoying but you find yourself unable to stop watching them.
-I don't handle annoying very well...I am able to stop watching them

13. PERCUSSIVE MAINTENANCE: The fine art of whacking the crap out of an electronic device to get it to work again.
-isn't this always solution #1? #2 is changing the batteries...finally

14. ADMINISPHERE: The rarefied organizational layers beginning just above the rank and file. Decisions that fall from the adminisphere are often profoundly inappropriate or irrelevant to the problems they were designed to solve.
-LOL!!! All I can say is...yep.

15. 404: Someone who's clueless. From the World Wide Web error Message '404 Not Found,' meaning that the requested site could not be located.
-OMG same superior!! And lots and lots of other people.

16. GENERICA: Features of the American landscape that are exactly the same no matter where one is, such as fast food joints, strip malls, and subdivisions.
-unfortunately this means my house

17. OHNOSECOND: That minuscule fraction of time in which you realize that you've just made a BIG mistake. (Like after hitting send on an email by mistake).
-I've totally done that! Lucky for me though the unintended person worked a couple desks away and were away from their computer with their email open...delete! :)

18. WOOFS: Well-Off Older Folks.
-I hope I become one of these

19. CROP DUSTING: Surreptitiously passing gas while passing through a Cube Farm.
-I have never heard this one...that's too funny! Crop dusting should be illegal!

Alcohol Sales on Sundays in Indiana...

So there's a new effort being launched to allow alcohol sales on Sundays in Indiana.

Hoosiers for Beverage Choices says Indiana is one of only three states that prohibits retailers from selling alcohol on Sundays, yet allows restaurants, taverns and numerous sports and community events to sell alcohol by the drink on that day.

You can visit this website and sign the petition if you are interested...

Last night's feast...

Cline Small Berry Mouvedre 2004
Seven Daughters Winemaker's Blend
Paprika Salami
Old Forest Salami
Smoked Gouda Cheese
Edam Cheese
Blarney Castle Cheese (by Kerry Gold)
French Bread

My favorite evening 'meal'...
My favorites last night were the Edam and the white blend wine. But this morning I preferred the Blarney Castle cheese.

All from Vine & Table
Oh, and I love the people there...always so helpful, not pushy, not in a hurry, and so friendly.
I will be at the Cider & Perry tasting on 8/22 and there's also a Port tasting the next day which I think I'll be attending.

See our review of the Seven Daughters wine on the wine blog...http://lastingerwine.blogspot.com/2008/08/seven-daughters-winemakers-blend.html

Olympic Opening Ceremonies...

In case you missed the opening ceremonies (or will miss them tonight for some reason) or just want to see some great pics...

What I wouldn't give to be this kind of photographer...especially the get paid to travel part!

It's nice to be appreciated...

I've been putting in a lot of extra time at work recently...a LOT of extra time.  I know one week I put in just over 57 hours. I've worked at least some for four weekends in a row. Now...I'm salaried so I don't get overtime pay or anything cool like that.  I can do a sort of 'comp time' thing...but only in the same pay period.  But...if I'm that busy...what makes you think I have time to take time off so near the time that I'm busy?  Makes too much sense right?
So anyway...what do I get out of all of this extra time that I work?  Well, let me look it up...
Oh yea...could it make less sense please?  "PTO is accrued on the basis of 1.25 days per month of employment"
So...I get what...maybe an extra day of PTO with all I've worked?  Big whoop.  I decided that if I stayed this busy continually that in order for me to even be motivated (beyond that I like and respect who I'm doing the project for...and btw...it's not internally in our company) that I would want some monetary compensation.  I know there's probably some weird rule with salary and overtime...like not getting any.  But I know a way around that.  It's called a bonus.

Anyway, I've been feeling increasingly bitter with my company for this lack of compensation (not that I've asked for it) and still not feeling any animosity toward the external company that it's for and especially not the people I work with there.  Here's why...
They consistently thank me and tell me I'm doing a great job...personally on the phone too btw...not in an email where I know it's easier to say these things.
"I don't know what I'd do without you"
"We would be dead in the water without you"
"We appreciate this so much"
"You are amazing"

And to top it all off...today I receive a $100 gift certificate to a local day spa with the message "Thank you for all your hard work".

I wish I felt that appreciated here.  Don't get me wrong...I think they do...in a way...but I don't feel like it a lot of the time.  Let's put it this way...I basically demanded a pay raise with my last review.  Not because I think I'm the shiz-nat and just want more money...but because I knew what I was getting was not even close to fair.  I know what other people with the same amount of experience in my field get and I'm still way behind even with the raise.  A 13% raise too.  Yea.
I don't want it to sound like I hate it here, I don't.  I like my coworkers, I like the environment of the office, I like my projects.  But liking people and projects don't pay the bills and if you feel like you're under-appreciated you start to feel that animosity creep in.  Pay is the biggest way employers can show their appreciation.  Words and other rewards help but in the overall...pay is what counts the most and we all know it.  So I don't think a 'bonus' is asking too much.

My point was really that I feel appreciated by an external company and I thank them for that.  If they weren't so dang far away, I'd probably be working for them.

888!!!

We'll never see this again in our lives...
08-08-08
And the Olympics start today...(at 8:08pm Beijing time)...the number 8 is lucky in the Chinese culture.

How cool am I?...

I invented a new perfume scent...
.
Eau de mocha frappucino...('lite' because we wouldn't want it overpowering)
.
Courtesy of a hole in my lip
.
I'm awesome.
.
BTW - can you tell I'm much less busy with life lately? It's refreshing.

I've GOT to see this movie!

Calling all winos! Or...just people who like funny movies...or people who like Alan Rickman...

It's an independent film and has a limited release but has ONE Indy showing at Keystone. I'm so there.

My random thoughts for the day...

Ok first...cheesy tots from Burger King...rock my world.

So...I'm toying with this idea...
.
I went to an Arts & Crafts Festival last weekend and some of the vendors got me thinking...'why can't I sell this stuff'?
.
Aside from the homemade jewelry (which I can totally do) there were a few print/photo booths.
.
Not this................................................................................This

I mean, their photos/prints were great but a lot of them made me say...'well, mine are pretty good' or 'hey I have one that looks similar to that one' or 'I could totally do that'.
.
So...I'm thinking of starting up a website and offering prints of some of my best photographs. I may check into booths at some fairs/festivals...but I don't want to spend too much money on something so experimental and also don't want to do the whole festival circuit all the time.
.
I'll share some of my favorites to get some feedback...when I actually have time to download and process all the images that I still have on my camera! I would love to hear what you all think or if you have any suggestions or ideas for me.
.
Oh I also might be taking 1 year old pics of a friend of mine's baby. That will be fun and exciting!

47 Things About Me...

Stolen from Liam who stole it from Irish One...

1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? Nope. Well my middle name is the same as my dad’s.
