Shipshewana Sneak Peeks...

There's a huge horse sale at the auction barn...I've never seen so many Amish or horse-and-buggies in one place at one time.  And that's saying something!

Anyway...enjoy the sights of Shipshe...

Obsession...

Must...have...these...shoes...

They are Hush Puppies. They are called "Qualify".  I want them in the green/grey color.  I wear 8 1/2, will settle for 9.

Look my minions...look and thou shalt alert me immediately if you find them in my size and in stock!!!

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things...

I decided to change the name of my "Favorite Thing of the Day" because I felt like I was ripping off 'List of the Day' blog.

Anyway...how freakin' cute is this pin cushion from Pink Chalk!??!?!?
Love it!!!

Coincidence?...

I totally just ran into Kristi on my vacay!  I've been in Shipshewana since yesterday morning (and will be until tomorrow) and here I am with my mom and her friend just having lunch in one of the shops in The Mercantile and I saw her walk by.  I mean, I was kind of keeping an eye out, I knew she planned at one point to go to Shipshe Friday but I didn't really think we'd just happen to be there at the same time but we WERE!

So then my mom asked if I wanted a picture so I asked Kristi if she'd like to be a dork with me and pose together.  She agreed to dorkiness.  Proof to come later...my mom doesn't carry around her USB cord with her like I do.  :)

Kristi it was fun running into you!  You and Kaylee are super cute!!!

Another debate...

So there's also this buffet cabinet at the antique store that I love too...
And it's only $60!!  The top is horrendous...some kind of plasticy pink marble wanna-be.  But that can be replaced.
So I'm thinking about this one too...

I was at this totally cute coffee shop this morning in Shipshewana that I must go and take photos of and inted to blog about.  It's just gorgeous and quaint and the chai latte and baked oatmeal was FABULOUS!!!  More to come...

Antique Store Finds...

There was one booth that had 50% off of all jewelry and ridiculous prices to begin with so how could I not?...

My plans for this one are to rip it apart and use the shell beads in other jewelry creations.  I mean, you can't tell me this is a true antique or anything...for real.
No ripping this apart...I just think it's a lovely piece.  You will probably see it in my etsy shop in a new vintage section.
Ok, this ring...I had every intention of putting this on etsy too...but...it hasn't left my finger since I bought it so...

Debating....

So I found a great cabinet at an antique store and I'm going back and forth on whether to get it.

It's only $40!!!

I would paint it a different color...perhaps white with a bright surprising color inside.

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things...

Margaritas at Hacienda!!!

Not to mention their chips, salsa, and RANCH!
My mom got the Adobo Enchiladas...those are so, SO good!!!

My interview...

So Stacie over at Stacie's Madness did an interview then offered to give out interview questions to those that were interested and I thought..."why not"...so here it is...way longer than anticipated!

1 - You make beautiful jewelry and have beautiful photo skills, how did you get started in both hobbies/careers?
First of all…thank you so much for the compliments!
Well the jewelry just came from what I guess is a natural creative side. I always made the friendship bracelets and little crafts like that when I was younger and it evolved into a “I can make that” when looking at jewelry in stores and stuff. I think the very first ‘real’ thing I made was a bracelet at this store called Beads Amore where you can shop for all kinds of beads (and only as many as you need…onesies twosies…and you can sit and use their tools there and make it with their help if needed. From then on I started getting my own tools and my own bead, wire, etc stock and just create when the mood suits!

Photography is something that surprised even me. It’s all Shawna’s fault! :) Shawna used to work at the company I’m at and she picked up photography as a hobby and her photos were so great that I asked her to take my engagement photos. And those were so great that I asked her to do my wedding even though at that point she hadn’t done a wedding yet! And those photos were absolutely breathtaking…as a friend said “I didn’t see what she saw”…and my interest was way, way piqued. I assisted her in some organization and some photo processing (working off some of my album costs) and really got interested. One day she tells me she’s selling her first camera (Nikon D50) and wanted to ask me first, I jumped on it. And it’s what I still shoot with. I had the wonderful experience of being a 2nd shooter at a wedding with Shawna and learned so much…mostly about the type of photos I like to take and also just how much I loved it! I started taking the camera everywhere and I first knew that I was really into more than just a casual interest when I went to Shipshewana last year and got some of my all-time favorite photos.

I don’t have the money for all the fancy equipment so for now I deal mostly with natural light and for the most part…nice weather. :) I maybe might be maybe taking some senior pictures for a couple people, nothing is set in stone but I’m hopeful!

2 - Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Wow, I’m not sure. Probably by then we’ll have kids. We just haven’t been bitten by that bug yet. And our friends are so mixed…some make parenting look like a breeze and we think “we can do that” and then we see others that make us never want to have kids. My mom says if we never have kids that’s ok…I think she’s lying but I love her for saying that. :) Hopefully I’ll be doing well in my career (no more paycuts at least! Sheesh!). And who knows…maybe someone out there will let me blog for a living…or make jewelry or photograph! I can see myself doing a lot of different things…jobs I mean. But they all are not so easy to start or get into and I don’t exactly have the means for that risk. But who knows…?

3 - What is something you WANT that you do not have in your life right now?

Financial security. The credit cards need to get paid off and up until now both the hubby and I were doing pretty well at that. Now I fear mine will come to a standstill…I mean still being able to make the payments but not necessarily any headway. Perhaps etsy will pick up and I’ll have the extra money to do that! Or you know…the lottery. OH wouldn’t that be great!?!? I mean, a jackpot would be unbelievable but if we could just pay off our credit cards we would be doing awesome! I dream of that day…no credit card debt.

4 - What made you start blogging?

Some friends had started their own blogs and it was just more of a ‘this is what I am up to’ for them but I really enjoyed keeping up with them that way. Then mine turned into a sort of diary…I mean, just whatever I was thinking. It’s a lot of things for me now…outlet, soapbox, journal, photo sharing, business boosting…I really like it and consider it one of my hobbies. I also read waaaaay to many blogs…let me check how many I subscribe to in Google Reader (thank goodness for Google Reader!)…oh dear God…I am subscribed to 195. Now, I don’t read every word of all of those 195. Some are skimmers and some if I let them go too long without reading the newest posts just get all ‘marked as read’. But it’s where I get a lot of ideas, inspiration, etc. Plus I’ve met a lot of cool people out there that I now consider my e-friends!
I’ve been thinking of doing a weekly showcase of one of my subscriptions…just sharing what I read and why kind of thing…what do you think?

5 - What is your favorite vacation destination or dream vacation destination?

We honeymooned in Sonoma Valley, California…and yes I entered everyday for the HGTV Dream Home in Sonoma!...and it was the best trip EVER! We knew we loved wine and thought we would love wine country but we had no idea how much we would fall in love with it. I mean, I actually feel a real ache in my chest to go back there. A lot of the honeymoon experience was due to our trip being planned for us (thanks again to Mary from winecountryexcursions.com) down to every appointment and dinner reservation. It was blissful!
We plan to go back in Spring of next year…well, we really hope to. We need to save money NOW for it, and this whole pay reduction thing is not helping! But we just LOVE Healdsburg and Glen Ellen. If anyone wants wine country travel tips I can talk your ear off about it!!!
Actually on this scrapbooking getaway I plan to scrapbook our honeymoon so I might blog about it too.
Other than that I would love to go to England sometime…actually there are a lot of places I’d love to visit! Anyone want to pay me to blog about travelling?  I’ll take some purty pictures too!

Thanks Stacie for the interview questions, it was fun!!! I didn’t think I’d ramble so much but…eh!

At the risk of over Ellen-izing you...

Gladys cracks my shit up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am going to watch every single one of these videos!

There's a long list of all the Gladys clips on Ellen's site:
http://ellen.warnerbros.com/2009/01/gladys_videos.php

(You can also do a search on YouTube "Ellen Gladys" will find 'em)

Here you can see several of the clips in one:

But I really LOVE what Gladys has to say about Ellen & Portia's marriage. LOVE.

Harmony.

The Ellen Show Kitty Kam...

So...Ellen Degeneres has a webcam in her studio 24/7 and a viewer spotted a cat roaming around when the studio was empty one day...then it made another appearance...now Ellen is feeding it.  (She does have her own brand of organic pet food after all)  And she even put out a giant kitty play tower for it.
Totally adorable
So now I'm all caught up in this kitty drama!  :)

I cannot embed them from her website but here are the links if you'd like to join me in my kitty kam obsession...

this one is just watching the cat eating...nothing super exciting...it's funny though it keeps looking at the tower like it's going to attack him

Favorite Thing of the Day...

I'm not really a dress up gal.  Sure I own and wear skirt, dresses, etc.  But my favorite things are comfortable things...I'm more of a T-shirt gal.  And my work outfits basically consist of comfy slacks and dressed up T-shirts...add a scarf or necklace and bingo!
My favorite Ts right now...

Mossimo T-shirts...
Available at Target and also Amazon!

I love them because they are really soft, kind of thin (nice for layering and don't feel bulky), and longer than some tees.  AND...they aren't expensive.
They have long sleeve, short sleeve, elbow sleeve, tank tops...all kinds of colors...all kinds of styles.

LOVE THEM

Oh, I just got the one below and also a black low v-neck on clearance!

Avon Walk for Breast Cancer...

This is one of my dearest friends Elizabeth (on the left - shown with her sister Stephanie).

She is going to be in a 2-day, 39.3 mile walk to raise money for breast cancer research.  The first day is basically an entire marathon and the second day is a half marathon.  She is required to raise $1,800 but hopes for more...an amitious goal but one I know she can reach...especially with the help of people like my fine readers out there.
There is no amount too small to give and I know she would appreciate any help from anyone.

Her webpage is here:
http://info.avonfoundation.org/site/TR/Walk2009/Chicago?px=4471666&pg=personal&fr_id=1780
And there is a link to donate securely with a credit or debit card OR you can write a check if you prefer.

Please help her out if you can!!! It's such an important cause!!!

New Stuff on Etsy...

New in my etsy shop...

Sponsored by the Letter...

Thanks to Stacie for this one...
Here’s how it works...

You leave a comment (asking for a letter) on this post, and I’ll assign you a letter. You write about ten things you love that begin with your assigned letter, and post it at your place. When people comment on your list, you give them a letter, and the chain continues on and on.

1 - Drinking wine - I'm a big fan...readers should know this by now.  I just love the complexity of its flavors, but also the simplicity...of just enjoying it.
2 - Diet Coke - What can I say...I'm addicted!
3 - Design - this is kind of broad...I love interior design, organizing, "designing" photos, designing album cover layouts (yes, I've done this), designing jewelry, designing all kinds of things!
4 - Drowning out certain....um....noises at work with my headphones. Ask me no questions I'll tell you no lies!  ;)
5 - Daydreaming...really serious daydreaming.  Things I want to do, wish I could do, places I'd like to go...or just that I have mad kick-your-ass skills like Jason Bourne.
6 - 'Dispatches from the Island' - this is Jorge Garcia's (Hurley) blog and I just love it!  He's so real, that's what I love about him.  (And his dog Nunu is adorable!)
7 - Dirty Jobs w/ Mike Rowe...who doesn't love that show?  And the host?!  He rocks.
8 - Diamonds...duh!
9 - Derek...he's my cousin...he's awesome
10 - D.C....as in Washington D.C.  I really want to go back.  I just love all the history, the monuments, museums...it really is gorgeous.

WANT of the Day...

It sounds like a good story...
Read the story about the story here:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/worklife/02/05/starbucks.saved.my.life/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

Available on Amazon.
Description from Amazon:
"In his fifties, Michael Gates Gill had it all: a mansion in the suburbs, a wife and loving children, a six-figure salary, and an Ivy League education. But in a few short years, he lost his job, got divorced, and was diagnosed with a brain tumor. With no money or health insurance, he was forced to get a job at Starbucks. Having gone from power lunches to scrubbing toilets, from being served to serving, Michael was a true fish out of water.
But fate brings an unexpected teacher into his life who opens his eyes to what living well really looks like. The two seem to have nothing in common: She is a young African American, the daughter of a drug addict; he is used to being the boss but reports to her now. For the first time in his life he experiences being a member of a minority trying hard to survive in a challenging new job. He learns the value of hard work and humility, as well as what it truly means to respect another person.
Behind the scenes at one of America’s most intriguing businesses, an inspiring friendship is born, a family begins to heal, and, thanks to his unlikely mentor, Michael Gill at last experiences a sense of self-worth and happiness he has never known before."

And these days maybe a lot more of these 6+ figure salary folks should read this to learn that the way they are living may not be 'normal'.

Favorite Thing of the Day...

These glasses are just CLEVER!
How much does every guy in the world want one of these?

Until Amazon carries them they can be found here...

My Life - the Soundtrack...

Again another meme...but I really like this one because I have a major thing for soundtracks.
I thought I would add to it and find clips of the songs when I could so you can hear anything you aren't familiar with...which on my iPod...is probably a lot.

My Life Soundtrack

So here's how it works...
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For the first question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button TWICE
6. Don't lie and try to pretend your cool...just type it in man!
7. Tag 10 people, and they have to do it too :)

IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?

Opening Credits:
Neon – John Mayer

Waking Up:
Gumption – Hans Zimmer (The Holiday Soundtrack)

First Day of School:
Let You Down - Dave Matthews Band

Falling in Love:
Going Wrong (Radio Edit) - Armin Van Buuren & DJ Shah Featuring Chris Jones

Losing Virginity:
Tikal - ES Posthumus

Fight Song:
Bed of Roses - Bon Jovi

Breaking Up:
Love Will Never Do (Without You) - Janet Jackson

Prom:
Runnin' Down a Dream - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

Mental Breakdown:
Sabotage - Beastie Boys
(nice!)

Driving:
Shut Up & Dance - Aerosmith
(I do dance in my car when moved to)

Flashback:
Have a Nice Day - Bon Jovi

Getting Back Together:
Roller Coaster - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Wedding:
No Getting Over You - Kilauea
No video...the best I can do is give you a couple links where you can preview it, but it's appropriate.
http://www.rhapsody.com/kilauea/diamond-collection--brainchild-records
http://www.amazon.com/DIAMOND-COLLECTION-KILAUEA/dp/B000008PJ3/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1233758150&sr=1-3

Birth of a Child:
Can't Stop This Thing We Started - Bryan Adams
appropriate?

Final Battle:
Truth Be Known - Atlas Plug
Very appropriate...let it get going...round the middle...

Death Scene:
If I Wanted to Call You - Hans Zimmer (The Holiday Soundtrack)
Could SO be a death scene!
I can't seem to find any video or any links or anything for you!  Sorry!

I just learned you can buy all Crystal Light products on Amazon!  Aw, they didn't have to do that just for little ole me!

Getting to Know You...High School Version...

So the Super Bowl...

That was some game!
YAY for the Steelers (I have fam in PA so I was rooting for them)!  But you have to give credit where it's due to the Cardinals...they didn't make it easy for the Steelers to win and they had some great plays!

But what was with all the scruffles?  Fighting?  Is it really necessary?  I hate that in any sport....well maybe hockey.  It's a game...a sport...there's something appropriately named called sportsmanship.  We need more of it.

Anyway...I kind of felt bad for the Cardinals...they tried so hard.  And then seeing them walk off the field with their heads hung...
Don't hang your heads!!! You played an awesome game!!!
I like underdogs too so it wouldn't have bothered me if they had won.  Plus...you know...Jerry Maguire.
btw...did you see Cuba Gooding Jr at the game?!?!?  He looked old....and generally not good.  Maybe it was the angle or something...am I alone in this?
And can we say...BEST...NATIONAL ANTHEM...EVER!?  Seriously Jennifer Hudson did a wonderful job!

And how awesome was it that the crew of US Airways 1549 were there?

Commercials...well there were quite a few I really liked.  I even had to start writing them down so I wouldn't forget...but did I remember to bring my notes?  No.
BUT...

GoDaddy...CHEAP! Seriously?  That's all you got? PUH-lease.

Pepsi...
MacGruber - LAME but I'll give props to the real MacGyver who did a cameo, that's the only thing that was funny.
Pepsi Max - LOVED IT
Refresh Anthem - LOVED this one too, love the retro and the update

Hulu...not bad but not completely memorable, Alec was pretty funny

Taco Bell...HORRIBLE.  All I could think of after it turned out to be Taco Bell was..."Taco Bell for a date?!?  Are you kidding me?!?  Cheap ass bastard!"  and it lost the cuteness it started with.

Cash4Gold...I thought this was going to be a spoof! I mean, it kinda was a spoof of itself in a way...but at least MC Hammer and Ed McMahon can make fun of themselves!  Pretty funny!!

Coke Zero...cute and again I liked the retro take

NFL - Usama Young...good one!  The high stepping thing...LOL!

Coke - the heist - very cute and well done!  It's got a little wow-factor.

CareerBuilder.com - "tips" - at first I thought this one was going to be annoying with the repeating but then, I don't know it just clicked and I could not stop laughing!!!

Budweiser...did you notice that they didn't even show the beer in their ads?  I didn't either until later.  Who doesn't love the Clydesdale ads?  I can't decide if I like the 'fetch the stick' or the 'circus love' one best.

Monster.com...also funny

Denny's...what?  FREE food?  In case you missed it you can get a FREE Grand Slam breakfast TOMORROW ONLY from 6am to 2pm.  Dine in only.  Seriously.  Not to mention that it was a cute ad.

Photography Tip...Focal Point...

I am NOT taking credit for this tip...only pointing you in the right direction.

I've been asked now and then for some photography tips (me...being asked for tips!...weird...I'm still learning!) and I've found some very useful websites that help me learn some things.

This one came up on my Google Reader today and just thought I would put it out there for all.  For some it will be a "duh" and for others it's a "duh...but I didn't really think about it like that".

Enjoy...

Super SuperBowl Chili...

We aren't having anyone over, we aren't going anywhere either, and we aren't even making a ton of food just for us two. BUT I am making my famous chili...which in reality is hardly ever the same.
It follows the same base but the additives vary.

I changed it up this time by adding in a habanero pepper but was too scared to chop it up and add it all in. Habaneros can be reeeeeeally hot. So I sliced it in quarters but left the top in tact and will cook the chili with it in but take it out before eating. You can see it in the pic at the end.
I've learned that if you wear contacts...you wear gloves when dealing with hot peppers!!! I chopped up one large jalapeno for this chili, I made sure to add some of the seeds to the chili too...that's what gives it some heat!
My typical base is 3 cans of different beans...chili beans w/ sauce, black, and red kidney beans...1 lb ground beef, and a can of condensed tomato soup or something else tomatoey...but not chunks of tomatoes.
GARLIC!!!
Ok I'm going to give some free advertisement for OXO's garlic press...
First of all if you love garlic, you should cook with fresh garlic...second, if you love cooking with fresh garlic, get a garlic press!!!
I love OXO's press because it's so easy to clean. After you squeeze out the good stuff you flip it completely around the other way and the little 'teeth' poke through the press holes and get the gunk out.
Still...as easy as that is...to get your press really clean I recommend rinsing it as soon as you are done using it. Garlic is sticky and if you let it sit and dry you will have a heck of a time getting it off your press!
Here's the chili pre-mixed. You can see how I did the habanero here.

Can't wait to dive in...
I had to make a couple of unplanned adjustments...
I didn't have tomato soup (I always have tomato soup!) but I did have tomato rice soup...that will do, so there's little bits of rice...so little you probably wouldn't even notice anyway.
I also didn't have any chili powder or 'regular' chili seasoning (I always have a packet of chili seasoning!!) but I did have 'Cincinnati Style' chili seasoning. Not what I was going to go for...but it works. So it will have that bit of sweetness but I also think that will make it interesting.
.
If you consider yourself a cook (in even a remote way...and I said cook not chef) you need to be able to come up with substitutions like this. For instance, one time I was sure I had enchilada sauce...nope. But I was not going back out to the store. I did have tomato soup in this instance and successfully made an enchilada sauce from a can of condensed tomato soup. I was proud.
.
Anyway...we'll have the chili in 2 different ways tonight. For the game as a fun snack I will spread fat free cream cheese on a plate and then put some chili on top of that and serve with some Tostitos scoops! And then also cook some elbow macaroni noodles and we will have some Chili Mac too. Not much variety but won't leave us with ridiculous leftovers either.
