Digging myself out...
I got so busy with making jewelry for the fair booth, etsy listings, being gone for a weekend, etc etc etc...
that this is what has happened...
I've gotten VERY far behind in reading blog subscriptions...
All the bold numbers are UNREAD!
Now...lemme 'splain...no lemme sum up...the 1000+ in the crafts section is mostly from my etsy 'custom items' requests...where people can put requests for particular handmade items on etsy. I watch this for jewelry requests but also for wedding invitation requests to make some extra money. My submissions have yet to be accepted but maybe sometime. I really had fun making my own invitations/programs/etc so I figured why not. I digress...point is that category gets hundreds of entries everyday, it's the biggest culprit.
Now I'm not necessarily going to try to read everything either...I skim. And some items, especially in 'humor' are short reads...LOLcats and stuff.
I'm also trying to get a hold on my email. For a very long time I've had hundreds just sitting in my inbox. They are either recipe emails or craft emails that I don't want to get rid of or don't know where to put, some still unread. I've started from the oldest and at least gave them labels so that when I know exactly how I'll 'forever store' them I can sort by the label.
But I will get my unread messages down to ZERO!

sjlarts updates...
sjl arts...my shop on etsy...now has a Facebook page! Pay a visit and become a fan!
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fishers-IN/sjl-arts/107965899695?ref=nf
I'm working on more promotion for my etsy shop. I really like to be crafty and I really like making a little extra cash from it too! ;) I also really like getting the great feedback I have been lately!!!
I think I've got a little niche with the paper beads that I've been creating and creating jewelry with. There are some other folks on etsy that do sell paper beads or paper bead creations but not a ton. I've gotten a lot of compliments on my paper bead jewelry and amazement that they're made from magazines. People also like that it's recycled!
At the Tipton Co 4H Fair I had a table at the Craft Show. I ended up with a total of 15 sales over the Friday evening and all day Saturday show. It doesn't sound like much but it was more than anyone else in the same building as me did. And I got an idea of what sold well...at least at live shows and with certain crowds. I'll tell you what...I sold out of my Twilight necklaces.
I already have requests from family members for more of these...guess I need to get crackin.
Anyway, a lady came around and was just loving the paper beads and their 'recycled story'. You see, she was from the Tipton County Recycling Board and was manning that booth. She told me that I should really have a booth at the recycling convention. Recycling Convention?! There is a convention for everything isn't there? BUT...it really was a good idea so I gave her a card and also a stretchy bracelet I made from the paper beads...I figured she herself is a great marketing tool. :)
Turns out I was right.
Later another lady comes up to my table, I find out her name is Kelly, and she says "I'm supposed to look at your stuff!". She starts to go on and on about it and how great it all is. Then she tells me she works at the Atlanta Mercantile...an artisan consignment shop in Atlanta, IN. And that I really need to come in and sell my stuff there! They are on the 'art trail' or something like that. And there's a big festival in Atlanta in September and they get tooooons of traffic. Actually I had several people ask me if I would be at that festival but I had never heard of it until then. I was also asked if I would be at the Tipton County Pork Fest but I think it's too late to enter that one now. Plus you have to have a vendor license and tax junk that I don't have yet and don't know if I want to get into just yet. So for this year, I will attend these shows and just see...
I will be going to the Atlanta Mercantile this Saturday to check it all out. I'll take my camera and give you a full report. Hopefully it works out great!

So You Think You Can Dance 100th Episode...
Let me first start this by saying how much I love this show. I love love love this show! I love all the people involved, love the dancers, love the choreographers...
However...I was QUITE disappointed last night about the build up for Kaite Holmes performing...
They never said it would be a live performance, but they never said it wasn't. And it appeared to me that they tried to make it seem like she was there performing the dance live, but did not succeed.
They touted her dancing and singing...even in the recorded performance it was obvious she was lip syncing at that time too. I'll buy that she actually sang it when the vocals were recorded, but really?
The dance wasn't even that impressive to me.
Yea, it's great that she donated her full performance fee to the Dizzy Feet Foundation but I was left greatly disappointed and feeling a little deceived by all the hype.
I would rather have seen more favorites from past seasons (and they were fabulous and wanted to see more) than this Katie Holmes hyped up rubbish!
OK...that rant is over. I just hope they don't try something like that again!
So I was completely shocked at who had the fewest votes last night!!! Even the lowest two!
Janette is now gone...

Thought for sure she'd be in top 2. I thought Melissa would go despite the most awesome performance in the 'cancer dance'. OMG it was so good...see yesterday's blog for it.
And Jason is gone...

Jason...I love love love him (he was my favorite of the four). I thought for sure that Evan would be the one to go last night. And I love love love him too. But honestly the other three are better than him in technique.
Really I think it could have been any of the 'three'. My hubby and I think that Evan gets more votes because the judges make it a point to really critique him and point out flaws so fans vote more feverishly to keep him safe. While the others, getting great compliments sounded more safe to fans so they didn't vote thinking "oh they're fine for sure". I think that's what happened with Janette too. Fans thought she was safe for sure and didn't pick up the phone.
ALWAYS VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE!!!
Hey I found Jason & Kayla's zombie dance that I was looking for yesterday! Enjoy! I think it's a really a fantastic hip hop number!
It was perfect to lighten the mood after the emotional performance of Melissa & Ade.

So You Think You Can Dance amazingness...
If you aren't alone or near a box of tissues you may want to wait to watch this one...
I don't have words for it...beautiful, profound...don't seem to cover it.
I really wanted to post the last dance of the night as well to lighten up the mood after that but it must not exist online yet. UPDATE***I found it...check the blog entry for 7.24.09!
Tonight is SYTYCD's 100th episode and they will be having some of their best dances performed again on stage...I can't wait for that! :) Ellen Degeneres was a guest judge last night, purely there for comic relief...I love her she's hilarious...hope she's there tonight too.
At this point all of the contestants are so good, I really don't know who I want to win. I can't even guess who might be leaving!!
I think my favorite female dancer is Jeanine.

But they are all fantastic! Actually considering going to their tour...at Conseco in Indy October 11.
But my guy favorites keep rotating...and they're all so good!

Apollo 11 Mission...
Now on this website that I talked about before...
http://wechoosethemoon.org/
You can now browse through any of the stages at your leisure. You may have to reload the page to start from the beginning again, but before you do that click on 'return to earth' and watch the great slideshow with some good goosebump music.
I will be listening to the actual landing and the exit from the lunar module since I missed it 'live'.

40 Years Ago Today...
Apollo 11 landed on the moon
"That's one small step for man...one giant leap for mankind"

You can follow the mission in real time on this website...
http://wechoosethemoon.org/
It's pretty cool, they're broadcasting the radio communications 'live' in real time...or what would have been 40 years before. They haven't landed yet, it would be awesome to hear that, and when they exit the lunar module to walk on the surface. I'm hoping to catch it!

Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was FABULOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSS!
If you haven't read the books or know what happens I will not ruin it for you here. Just know that something very dramatic happens but the movie is very well balanced with some comedy. I feel like they are real 16 year olds. More real than they have been.
The movie start time was 9:10, when we got to the theater at 8:35 there was a long line formed to get into our auditorium!

Our friend Maggie got there just before we were let in to sit down, still got great seats. They said it was a 'sold out' show but there were still single seats here and there. I was a little disappointed that no one was dressed up :( guess all those peeps went to the midnight show (we were tempted by the midnight show as well).
Saw some good previews...Sherlock Holmes, The Princess & the Frog (a new Disney movie), Twilight: New Moon...if you're into that...which I'm not....so..., OH! and Where the Wild Things Are!!! So excited for that one! It's so funny the energy that opening day audiences have. People were clapping for the previews and of course when HP started and ended. There were cheers (& some jeers) for Twilight, applause for Where the Wild Things Are...it was great.
Anyway, you'll love Harry Potter!
And to those of you that haven't read the books...and may or may not have watched the movies...*ahem...Aunt Sara...Randi*...READ THE BOOKS! Ok, Aunt Sara, I know you are reading them currently and Randi, you aren't alone.
Trust me...just read the first one...actually just read half of the first book and just try to put it down. It's such an easy read and you care for the characters so quickly, I have complete faith that anyone who reads the first book will be hooked and read the rest. AND if you haven't seen the movies either...read through the first three books. My favorite one of the series is the third one, but only when you don't know what happens...it was a gasping one! Ok, actually my favorite book is the last one but the third book is a very close second. The last book is chock full of gaspers that I will NOT ruin for anyone here.
REEEEEEAAAAD THEEEEEEMMMMMM!

The Corn Chip Pizza from Noble Roman's...
Definitely doesn't look like the ad...but still appetizing enough. The cheese is never as gooey as any ads show. And the ad shows whole corn chips...as you can see...not so much. And Merry Christmas we got green and red jalapenos!!
There's no bbq sauce on this, it's regular pizza sauce. I'm even eating a leftover piece right now to make sure...wooooo...peppers are still hot! Chips...not so crispy but I did reheat in the microwave not the oven. They were somewhat crispy when it was fresh.
Gotta say...I like NR's sausage. I'm picky about pizza sausage. Spicy and not too tough.
Overall it's a pretty darn tasty pizza. I could actually use more chips to really get that Frito's flavor that is oh-so-good. If you don't do spicy...ask to have the peppers left off (mom). :)
Would I get it again? Sure! But maybe only with a coupon...I had one for $9.99. Not sure what the regular price was but I got an order of breadsticks and two dipping sauces and the original price was $21. Thought it was a little high.

Is this awesome or gross?...
Noble Roman's..."most requested specialty pizza"
Sausage...three kinds of cheese...jalapeΓ±o slices...and...Fritos corn chips!!!
I don't know if I'm just channeling my inner college dude but this sounds reeeeallly good. Think we're going to get it tonight...I'll let you know.
Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince...Soundtrack...
You can listen to the whole thing right here! If...you're into that kind of thing...like I am...if it gets your blood going and feelings flowing...like me. Yes...I'm a soundtrack junkie.

So cool...
I want to learn how to make stuff like this...

Looks like I can take a class for it at the Indianapolis Art Center for $268...yea, I don't have that kind of extra money at the moment. But that would be fun! Oooohh, I want to do Enameling too! Oh man, there's all kinds of cool classes...jewelry, photography, Photoshop, woodworking!
Who wants to pay for me to go to these things!? LOL!

Best of 'So You Think You Can Dance'...
This dance from last night was so spectacularly good I just have to share it...
The beginning explains the story behind the dance...and when there's a story and a character to play it makes them sooooo much better.
Sorry about the graphics and such...
I actually think that the judges understated how good this dance was. It was so powerful for me the feeling lingered for quite a while. They were good.

The Woodhouse Day Spa - Carmel, IN...
Ok...so Tuesday I went to The Woodhouse Day Spa. I had a gift certificate from almost a year ago to use and finally just decided to do it.I chose the Neck & Shoulder Relief 60 minute massage since I've recently been having some issues with this area in my shoulder near my neck.
After checking out their website after I received the gift certificate from a client I was really excited as it looked so extravagant! But knew...those were photos for a website...was it really like that? But it would still be more luxury than I had experienced at any previous massage.
I got more excited after I booked my reservation online and then they called the next day to find out what size robe & slippers to have ready for me. Wha?! Nice!
The lobby looks very much like a salon...two reception desks and shelves lined with products. A little more upscale looking with the dark woods, an armoire filled with robes you can purchase, and the fireplace in the corner. I did notice on my way out the the makeup counter where you can have yours done is tucked to the far side.
I was taken to the women's locker room...now don't think like a gym locker room...this was a pretty fancy locker room. Granite counters with two sinks...real towels all rolled up in a pretty basket to dry your hands, lotions, perfumes, etc. A very large enclosed bathroom, a nice shower, and two enclosed changing rooms in case you're shy and a setee in the middle of the room. They assigned me locker #4 and my robe and slippers were waiting for me. It reminded me a bit of the day spa we went to on our honeymoon in Calistoga. You get a locker where you put all your stuff and you carry the key around on a little spiral bracelet thing like the managers at Best Buy. That way you're not carrying your purse around with you and have no distractions.
By the way...robe & slippers...soooo comfy!!! The slippers were like those plastic sandals but the upper sole has those raised knobs that kind of massage your feet as you walk...they're great! I wondered if my purse was big enough to steal them in...uh nevermind.
Then I went to 'The Quiet Room'. Here you just sit and relax and wait to be called. This is really what the room looks like except on that table there was a plate of cheese & crackers and a plate of blueberries and some of the best strawberries I've ever tasted. A glass of water and my paperwork to fill out were waiting for me.
I grabbed a couple foodies, couldn't help myself.
Bonnie soon came and got me and took me to my therapy room. And the table massage table did look like the pictures...pretty fabric draped on it, lavender eye pillow, little orchid placed so neatly. Candles burning, heated table, music piped in the room...actually the same music was piped throughout the place which is nice for continuity.
The massage was...wonderful. I mean...it's really hard to go through and describe this process...it was just blissful. I had told her that I had some sore muscles from jet skiing so at the end she put on this lotion that is kind of like BioFreeze (or BenGay) but better!!! And it smelled and felt so nice!!
When I was done with the massage I went back to the Quiet Room and could sit there as long as I liked. I tell you what, with the fresh cold water, the fireplace, and those strawberries...I could have stayed a while! I think I had I don't know...6 or 7 strawberries, drank my water, and just sat. It was so relaxing...
Check out was easy breezy...I was even able to take the tip out of the gift certificate so nothing came out of my pocket...even better.
Everyone was so nice there and the place just exudes relaxation. I would love to try some of the other services...ok all of the other services!
I mean check them out...http://www.carmel.woodhousespas.com/menuofservice.asp
On my wish list...
-detox seaweed wrap
-nirama detox
-the woodhouse signature massage
-any of the facials
-any of the 'spend the day with us' packages (duh)
-any of the manicures or pedicures
Ok...let's face it...I'd do anything they offer.
Again, Woodhouse, I'm going to put this out there...I'd be happy to 'mystery shop' the spa and I guess I could endure all of these therapies to give my opinion. ;)
I highly recommend The Woodhouse Day Spa for a real getaway...they do duets and groups too. I'm thinking me and mom need to hit it up together.
Little meme...
I am... only as old as I feel.
I feel... sleepy this morning, didn't sleep well last night.
I see... Nyx staring out the window at birds.
I need... a job...that I love.
I love... wine, crafting, blogging, music...a lot of things!
I wish... for financial security.
I think... too much.
I hear... the dishwasher and The Bonnie Hunt Show.
I crave... seafood! Crab legs specifically!
I fear... loss.
I hope... to stay hopeful!

Freebie Coming...

You may not all feel the same way I do about Long John Silvers...I have a love-hate relationship with it. I loooooove it but then right after I've downed it, I hate myself. :) I have a major craving for it about once every 6 months or so. And the craving has kind of snuck up on me again...it's the batter!!! And those batter crispies...and, oh drool...the hush puppies.
ANYWAY...July 14th LJS is giving away free Baja Fish Tacos until 2:30pm. You may have seen their ads for them recently, it's their new item.
For real...FREE! No purchase necessary even! (Yea, like i'm not going to get some chicken, lobster bites, and about 32 hush puppies with it.)
Massage Day!!!...
Who's getting a massage? I'm getting a massage! Now, before you all say "wait a minute Stac you don't have a job, you have no business paying all that money for a massage!"...I am using a gift certificate that I got almost a year ago. What took me so long, I have no idea.
Here is where I'm going and I can't wait because it sounds so great!
http://www.carmel.woodhousespas.com/
The Woodhouse Day Spa in Carmel. I'm getting the 'Neck & Shoulder Relief' Massage...it's my trouble area. Maybe I can sweet talk them into putting some kind of magical ointment onto my sunburnt skin!! Because I'm still neon colored on my shoulders and legs.
I'm going to give a full review of my spa experience, don't you worry. Although I will not be taking my big honkin' Nikon in there.
The only downer is that I scheduled this thing at exactly the time of MJ's memorial service...duh. Thank goodness for DVR.
Seriously though, go to the 'menu of services' on the Woodhouse website and check out all they do. I would loooove to try them all. Hey, Woodhouse...I think I could suffer through all the treatments if you want someone impartial to review all your services. :) I still can't find a job, I've got the time. ;)
Oh...maybe I'll just have to stop at DQ on the way home for that Blizzard...droooool.

I should have gone into musical composition or scoring...
Because I love this stuff!!!
The music gets me going and I'm so fascinated by every aspect of it!!!
How handy!!!...
Look what my lovely husband just made for me!!
I was sitting here saying that I needed some foam or something that I could stick the toothpicks in with the ‘wet’ beads on the end so they don’t dry flat and make marks in the glue. He grabbed a toothpick and left the room. I thought “wow, guess he needed a toothpick”…a couple minutes go by and he comes back with this handy holder!! How sweet! And HANDY!

My new obsession...
Paper beads!!!
My friend Missa showed me these and now I can’t stop making them! (Thanks Missa) Which is actually a good thing…I’m going to have a booth set up at the Tipton County 4H Fair (July 17 & 18)…so I would like to have more ‘inventory’ to sell. I’ll post the finished creations later.
These are super easy & fun to make. The one I’m demonstrating is made from magazine paper, the solid color beads there are a heavier paper stock that I had leftover from college. Patterned scrapbook paper would work great too. It’s really interesting to see the color patterns that are made.
Just cut some triangular strips out of the paper…
Use a toothpick to help roll the paper, don’t pull it too tight against it or you won’t be able to pull off the bead. Get the roll started then put a line of glue on the inside of the paper, you don’t need to use too much but don’t worry if you do. Just roll it up…
When it gets to the end you will need to add a drop of glue to get the point to lay down. Add enough glue for the point and also to coat the whole outside of the bead. (Like decoupage!) You can use a brush to coat the whole thing or just use your fingers. I just keep swirling it in my fingers until it’s coated. The glue will peel off your fingers.
The finished beads…aren’t they cool?!!?
Compare these beads to the original strips they started from...can't wait to do more!
